Dear Resident: Explaining Teaneck Transparency Trust

Dear Teaneck Resident:

We are happy to introduce you to Teaneck Transparency Trust and the website (www.teanecktransparency.com) where you now find yourself.
TTT has now been around for nearly a decade – and the information you currently find here has become available in much greater breadth and detail as we have matured in the management of the website and especially by often adding video clips of key portions of Teaneck public meetings.

This website has been, and will be, solely focused on data and official utterances on issues that relate to the decisions and procedures currently employed by the elected and appointed officials of our Township. We believe those decisions and actions importantly affect the way you live.

Our goal is to allow you – at whatever level of detail you wish – to track the way in which the Township generates – and does or does not effectively use – the taxes and revenue it raises to deliver municipal services to you.

This website itself surely will not materially improve the way the Township is governed. It will be the informed and active Teaneck residents who will do that. But you can be assured that TTT will 1) keep this Township-tracking initiative going – year round; and 2) when there are major governance successes or failures – we will be in touch with you through this mechanism and perhaps others.  We will always simply ask you to pay attention to how your Township is governed and decide how to respond and/or participate.

Teaneck Transparency has taken as its mission to make sure that the wider public knows what’s going on. Teaneck Transparency Trust has since Spring 2014 been a “continuing political committee” registered with the State’s Election Law Enforcement Commission. Its stated mission there is to be a municipal government watchdog. What it hopes to create is a way for Teaneck residents readily to get information they need/want to know about how their town “works” and what they could do – or ask their Township officials to do – to make it work better and more openly. Given dramatic cut backs in the personnel and coverage of both the Record and the Suburbanite (now the Northern Valley Suburbanite) we believe this work has become even more important than before.
